Chloe Gardner has always loved colour. She likes to surround herself with bright, cheery hues and spread her colour philosophy through her art. (The philosophy is simply that bright colours are uplifting and cheering!). Although Chloe is the youngest from a family of artists, or in fact because of that, at first Chloe pursued a career in Marketing, working for a national newspaper. It was only when meeting her husband in Brazil and spending 5 years out there that her career path changed. In Brazil Chloe became inspired by the bright coloured abstract art of Beatriz Milhazes as well as the nature surrounding her. Her house was wrapped in bougainvillea and surrounded by coconuts, mangoes and papaya trees. The spirit and happiness of the Brazilian joie de vivre was infectious and importantly, at last she had the time to actually do something with her creative yearning.
In 2006 Chloe and her husband returned to Scotland to live on a beautiful protected bird beach surrounded by woods. New inspiration from here (and from having children) saw her work change to cover more animals such as stags, hares and highland cows and to use materials picked up from around her: feathers from her beach, leaves and flowers from the woods. These two strong inspirations mean Chloe has two very different types of work – the bright coloured contemporary acrylics and the natural coloured collage work.
Chloe's Paintings and greetings cards are available to purchase at Duchray Castle.
